Loin de son registre habituel, j'étais intriguée par ce nouveau roman de Ali Hazelwood.

Pourtant, on est toujours dans le domaine des STEM et l'autrice a encore de sacrés sujets à dénoncer. Bien que cette fois, il ne s'agisse pas seulement des inégalités hommes/femmes. Elle va plus loin en parlant des rachats de brevets, de la protection de recherches, notamment en tant qu'étudiant. Comme de coutume, j'avais aussi vu venir le PT en toile de fond qui fait bien grincer des dents.

Mais la grosse différence vient du ton du roman. Finis la rom-com et l'humour potache. Les persos sont plus sombres, plus nuancés. Je n'avais aucune idée du contenu de l'histoire, des thématiques et j'ai pris la personnalité de Rue en pleine face. Cet atypisme, sa difficulté avec les normes sociales, je ne pouvais que comprendre.

Et c'est là qu'Eli entre en jeu. Pas de coup de cœur avec cette romance. Il n'est pas mon type, mais je n'ai pu m'empêcher d'être touchée. Déjà, le He fell first est juste tellement mignon. Puis, il y a eu leur façon d'apprendre à se connaître et la confiance qu'ils se sont accordés au 1er regard.

Par dessus tout, j'ai aimé les non-dits. Les demi-aveux sur leur relation qu'ils osaient se faire que dans leur tête, de peur d'effrayer Rue. En cela, Eli est épatant. Il l'accepte dans toute sa différence, ne la change pas et l'aide quand même à s'acclimater au mieux à la société.

Enfin, la romance est plus portée sur le SMUT. C'est voulu, assumé et nécessaire au vu des issues des persos. Il y avait un côté malaisant. On se dit qu'ils ne sont pas ensemble pour les bonnes raisons. La 1ère scène m'a d'ailleurs marquée. Je comprenais Rue. Mais l'évolution est bien faite. Ensemble, ils trouvent le parfait équilibre pour eux.

Et finalement dans un couple, c'est peut-être ça le plus important.
